Meet Roger Hui
We are proud to announce that as of January 1st this year, Roger Hui (roger@dyalog.com) has been working almost full time (4 days a week) for Dyalog. We are convinced that everyone is already aware of Roger's talents as a developer and language designer and we are happy that we have been able to reach this agreement.
Morten Kromberg says, "We are really look forward to working with Roger on the design and implementation of new language features in the years to come starting with Rational Numbers, which is what Roger is working on at the moment".
Roger comments, "My adventure into the world of array language started in 1975, when I joined I.P. Sharp Associates in Calgary as a summer student. Somehow, this lead to me staying 'put' as I was engaged as an APL application programmer until August 1989.
"n August 1989 a new challenge came up – J – and I embarked on a long career working on the design and implementation of J.
"In June 2008 Dyalog asked me to take a look at the interpreter and since then I have been working part time on the Dyalog interpreter, identifying and implementing performance improvements and implementing complex numbers. I have always believed that the years I spent programming in APL before touching the interpreter 'from the inside' are an advantage, because I knew what it was supposed to look like from the other side.
"Going forward, I will continue to spend a small part of my time developing J and collecting APL papers, articles, stories, anecdotes ...so keep an eye on the website (http://www.jsoftware.com/papers).
Roger lives with his wife and 2 children in Vancouver, Canada. He spends time in Bramley on a regular basis working closely with the team.
