Meet Liam Flanagan
Liam (Liam@dyalog.com) joined Dyalog in September 2010 and immediately went to the APL 2010 conference in Berlin, where he got a really good impression of the APL community, the buzz around APL and certainly the exciting new initiatives which are currently undertaken by Dyalog, such as APL# and RIDE.
Liam graduated from Manchester University with a BSc in Computer Science (Hons). Prior to joining Dyalog he worked as a C# developer in the healthcare sector, but he was keen to move into a role which would allow him to work with C++. It was our good fortune to find Liam just at the right time.
Liam says, "Since I joined Dyalog I've mainly been learning APL and familiarising myself with the Dyalog APL code base via bug fixes as well as tuition from other members of staff. My main responsibilities lie within the Windows side of the product allowing me to dive into areas such as the Dyalog APL .NET Bridge, the Windows GUI and the Windows distribution package.
"Working in Dyalog is a unique experience. There is a definite passion for our products as well as for our customers and especially to providing our customers with excellent and personal service. It is something which can be seen in everyday life around the office. This definitely creates an atmosphere of great collaboration and inspiration that is geared around producing the best software possible.
"Outside of work, the majority of my time in all honesty is probably spent cooking! However, I do enjoy playing video games as well as the fairly regular trip to the cinema. I'm a massive technology geek (I think you have to be to work as a developer in Dyalog) so I'd imagine that I spend any free second I have using/learning about gadgets and technology or getting my current gadgets to do different things. I do play the drums – however – it's not something I get to do on a regular basis due to their inherent neighbour-annoyance characteristics”.
Liam is 24 years old and lives in Reading, UK.
