Welcome to DYALOGue – Spring 2009

A new year has started and it already looks to be an interesting and exciting year for Dyalog. Although we can see that some of our customers (or our customers' customers) are affected by the so-called "credit crunch", 2009 looks like it will be another year of significant growth for Dyalog. The need for rapidly developing new ideas and applying creative thinking to changing business circumstances is greater than ever, and companies who are able to move quickly will thrive – or at least float a bit higher in the water – in turbulent times.

Looking back for a moment, 2008 was a very special year for Dyalog – because we celebrated the 25th anniversary of Dyalog APL. You will find a recap of some of the highlights of the year here.

The first version in our second quarter century will be Version 12.1. The "theme" for Version 12.1 is Faster & Stronger, but we've also found some time to make it Prettier. You can read an overview of the features that we expect to release after the summer here.

I am absolutely delighted to announce that on February 2nd, Andy Shiers started in a new position as Customer Support and Quality Assurance Manager based in our office in Bramley. Andy has a long history with Dyalog and Dyadic and many of you will know him already. Let me introduce Andy here.

We're equally thrilled to announce that – weighing in at 7 pounds 3 ounces – Jonathan Adam Chan was delivered safely and timely on February 18th by his proud mother, Jessica, supported by equally proud father, Vince Chan. If the rumours can be believed, we think this may be the first time anyone gave birth while wearing a Dyalog Conference T-Shirt!

Elsewhere in this issue of DYALOGue you will find a case study based on the web application for ordering school lunches that Tommy Johannessen presented at the Dyalog '08 Conference in Elsinore. And don't miss the news about the web-based APL Tutor that Dyalog and Zark are building together. Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank each of you for making 2008 such a wonderful year for Dyalog and extend the entire Dyalog team's warmest wishes for a happy and prosperous 2009.

Enjoy your reading!
