A Constant and Consistent Focus on Customer Support and Quality Assurance

For several years, Dyalog has been increasing the level of resource dedicated to ensuring the quality of the products. As another important step in this direction, we are pleased to announce that we have created a new position of Customer Support and Quality Assurance Manager, to ensure that there is constant and consistent focus on quality and support.

On February 2nd Andy Shiers started in our office in Bramley as our Customer Support and Quality Assurance Manager.

Many of you will remember Andy, who has worked in similar positions at Dyadic Systems (and subsequently Syan and ACS after the sale of Dyadic). Andy found himself on the UNIX (rather than APL) side of the business when Dyadic separated into two companies, and he is delighted to be re-united with his first love. Andy knows the product and many of you well already, and is looking forward to working with you all to ensure that our products and our support live up to your expectations!

Andy graduated from The City University in 1984 with a BSc in Actuarial Science. He says: "Originally I planned to become an actuary, but I got bored with exams. Fortunately by then I had discovered the world of computers and APL. My relationship with Dyalog APL started when I worked in a re-insurance company in the City in 1985 where I realised the department needed a centralised server so I recommended Dyalog APL on UNIX.

"I was probably a nuisance in terms of support calls to Dyadic over the next couple of years until I joined them to help with the support of APL and the then fledgling IBM reseller business. Allegedly the number of support calls that Dyadic was getting was significantly reduced when I joined the company.

"I spent the next 18 years as support manager for both the APL and the IBM reseller business during which time Dyadic became recognized as one of IBM's most technically competent business partners. But as time went on, I spent less time with APL and more time on the IBM side of things which resulted in me moving with that side of the business when it was sold to Syan.

"However, I never gave up the use of Dyalog APL and I even undertook consultancy jointly with Dyalog for a client who runs AIX with large amounts of SAN-attached disk.

"APL is in my blood so when the opportunity arose to join Dyalog (or as I prefer to put it 're-join' Dyalog) I jumped at the chance.

"I believe the future for Dyalog APL is bright and it was the ideal time for me to rejoin the party and I especially look forward to working closely with all Dyalog's customers and users”.
