Welcome to DYALOGue

As I write this column, I am on my way to FinnAPL outside Helsinki in Finland, via Düsseldorf in Germany, and busy preparing my presentation. We also have a few extras coming up, as Brian Becker will be doing a presentation and workshop on MiServer, which is officially launched this week. You can read more about MiServer in the Tool News article.

It's been 'go' on all cylinders since Dyalog '11 in Boston. The result of this combined effort is the release of Dyalog APL Version 13.1, which is now commercially available. There are quite a few enhancements and you can find a summary later in this newsletter.

We also have a new Global programming contest running that you can check out on this link. It is always interesting to follow the progress of new Student licences going out after the competition is announced and the uptake so far bodes well for submissions. Meanwhile, it's worth seeing the Video of the presentation by last year's winner, Joel Hough, at Dyalog '11. This is now available for download or streaming.

Another exciting initiative – actually prompted by Joel Hough – is that we have launched TryAPL.org this month. You can read our article about TryAPL.org in this newsletter.

We're already in the process of planning Dyalog '12, which will see us returning to LO Skolen in Elsinore, Denmark. The conference will run from Sunday 14th to Thursday 18th October 2012 (both days inclusive), so I urge you to mark the dates in your diaries now. I am, personally, absolutely delighted that we have managed to secure this fantastic venue once more and have no doubt that this year's conference will be one of the major highlights of the year. Please also take the opportunity to submit your suggestions for presentations and training courses to conference@dyalog.com as soon as possible. We would like to accommodate as many of them as we possibly can in our preliminary planning of the conference programme. We will be sending out further information regarding Dyalog '12, as well as details for registering, a bit nearer the time.
