Welcome to 2008 and to DYALOGue

Over the festive season I have finally had time to relax and reflect on the success Dyalog Ltd has enjoyed over the past coupe of years. A heartfelt THANK YOU goes to all our customers and business partners across the globe.

We have come a long way since the consortium took over the company in April 2005. The release of Version 11 in the Autumn of 2006 – introducing the Object Oriented Programming capability, as well as a collection of new features which we felt would help you make better use of computing hardware, operating systems and software platforms – and the latest software development methodologies, was our first major deliverable.

Building on that I am absolutely delighted to announce that Version 12.0.1 for Windows/32 is now commercially available. The defining feature of Version 12.0 is support for Unicode character data. However, Version 12.0 also contains a number of additional features – including built-in charting something many users have asked for – aimed at making you more productive. The new "Look 'n feel" of Dyalog – which became even more apparent when we introduced manuals in PDF and print–on-demand via Lulu has taken a further step. With version 12.0 we also launch our new online help and documentation sections. Read more about Version 12.0 here.

One of the new features in Version 12.0 is Conga, a new mechanism for developing client and server components which communicate with other web or network components. We have included a more detailed technical article on Conga for your perusal.

I am equally delighted to report that our initiative on offering students and lecturers the possibility of obtaining free-of-charge educational licences has taken off so well. We have recently conducted a survey on those who have been granted a license and the results are not only very encouraging, they will also help us define our future strategy with regards to spreading the word – and the product – in Universities and other educational institutions across the globe.

I am pleased that the User Conference which took place in Princeton USA attracted so many delegates. It was an action packed event with lots of good presentations and well attended training sessions. You will find reflections from the conference here.

Immediately after Dyalog '07 we announced that Dyalog had entered a partnership co-operation agreement with Finnish Techila Technologies Oy. Under the new agreement Dyalog will be able to provide its clients with a quick and cost-efficient solution for distributing demanding calculations based on Techila's Grid computing technology. We have included a more comprehensive article on Techila's technology.

We have long discussed how to best promote our partners specialised in Application Development using Dyalog as their preferred tool. See more about it here.

We know however, that although we've enjoyed much success over the past year there is no such thing as resting on the laurels.

As I write, we're busy finalising the last development issues in order to ready the Platinum release of Dyalog Version 12.0 in April.

We are also already in the process of drawing up the plans for the Dyalog '08 Conference which I am sure you'll be pleased to know will take place at LO-Skolen in Denmark this year.

On the marketing front you will continue to see improved communication during the course of this year. As always we're happy to receive your feed back and welcome your input.

Finally I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and prosperous 2008.

Enjoy your reading!

Gitte Christensen
